Warm Greetings,

In association with Salt Initiative, UESI-Delhi has already had orientation for the EU students about responding to the issue of female foeticide practiced through sex selective abortions.

Through these orientations, we have learnt that the problem goes beyond the issue itself; it’s root causes lie in the societal mind-set towards girls and women. Unless intervention is made at the mind-set level, all the efforts made through legal and government actions are not able to check the alarming decline of male female sex ratio in our country. As Christian Students on campus, we are in touch with fellow students who can have such a skewed mindset and may someday become perpetrators of the same “crime/evil” as is rampant in our society. As UESI-Delhi, we intend to create awareness about this issue in our campuses.

Hence as the next step after orientations, as informed, a Consultation is organised for those students who have shown interest to take this ahead.

The consultation is for us to contribute ideas and methods of taking this awareness and hopefully bringing about transformation towards such discrimination’s in the campuses.

The Executive Committee of KWSD at its executive meeting held on 15 January 2012 decided to hold the election of the new office bearers for the term April 2012  March 2014 on February 26, 2012 (Sunday). The Committee appointed Rev. Dino L. Touthang (Pastor, KWSD) and Rev. Letlal Haokip (Associate Pastor, KWSD) and Ms. Hoineichin Singson, Lady Staff worker, KWSD as Election Commission to conduct the election.  Another highlight of his message was the emphasis to be ‘Salt’ and ‘Light’ in the society. We are God’s messengers on earth and called to be his witness. Our actions in the society reflect our beliefs, and as such we should try and act in accordance with God’s words. It is imperative that we know we are the ‘Fifth gospel’- a gospel that everyone reads before they read the four gospels of the Bible, Rev. Khaizakham exhorted the youth.

 The second session on God’s in life and his will in relationships: Love and Marriage, was taken up by Rev. Dino L. Touthang,   the resource person for the second session. He structured the topic broadly as:(i) Christian marriage, and (ii) Finding God’s purpose in our life. On Christian marriage, he spoke about the purpose of marriage as designed by God. As per God’s plan, marriage  is  for  fellowship, partnership,  propagation  of  the human  race  and  obeying  his command.  We need to think carefully over these plans before we take a step towards marriage, he said. Rev. Dino also stressed on the importance of finding God’s purpose in our life. It is through the knowledge of our purpose in life that we can make decisions for our future. As young people, we should focus on God’s plan and purpose in life.

 The programme was of great benefit to the youth-physically and spiritually. Also,  apart  from  the meaningful sessions the members enjoyed  themselves  with  the programme  which  had  songs  & skits, lunch and snacks. We hope that the messages will remain in the minds of the youth, not only for the time being but even in the days to come, as a guiding light.
